Windows of Opportunity
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
The bible indicates that windows of spiritual opportunity are very rarely accepted and are only available for short periods of time. The problem isn't the windows themselves, but rather with the speed that humans get distracted when faced with powerful truths. This observation is consistent with many natural truths as well... Men stumble over the truth from time to time, but most pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing happened
Our Life is Our Life
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
Our life is a composite of the things which we do every day... the actions we take, the things we say, the things we involve ourselves in. The conduct of daily living, the company we keep and our attitude all combine together to make us who we are… and who we are seen to be. Many people have aspirations, hopes, dreams and ideals, but they are not seen unless they are exercised... these are not your life unless you live them. In simple terms, the things which you want to do and would like to be, have no bearing on who you really are. People are not mind readers, nor do good intentions automatically qualify us as good people. We are not who we think we are, but we are who we have become. The Lord (even life itself) requires actions not thoughts, he requires deeds not just promises, he needs participants not spectators. Eternal life is the result that comes for those who live according to an eternal lifestyle, not the reward for good intentions, unspoken prayers, unfulfilled commitments, etc. Our life style determines our life, or it is our death... the choice is very personal and we make it every day.
The Adventure of a Lifetime
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
The greatest secret in the universe is the value of the living soul... there are two aspects to life, not just the body. Satan is jealous of God and wants this world for himself... he will bring about total annihilation unless he is stopped. People have been blinded to this fact, because the sworn enemy of their creator and father, wants this world to worship him. This is achieved through lies, deceit and distractions, which continually focus on the pleasures of the body, while hiding the potential inheritance offered for the souls of all men. God is looking for people who are willing to take on the most exciting and daring role ever offered to any human... to save the lives of those threatened by the death of the soul. Most people won’t face the reality of physical death, let alone the death of the soul; it is the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about.
Jesus, Advocate For Sinners
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
The Christian life is a life full of hope and opportunity. Whenever we have needs or find ourselves out of our depth, Jesus Christ acts on our behalf for us... he takes over when the going gets too tough. This role that Jesus takes on has a special name, the term used is 'advocate'... one who comforts and defends. The role of advocate is two edged... we are defended against our shortcomings and failings and are personally supported at the same time.
The Last Great Stampede
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
The Klondike gold rush of 1897-1900 was the last great gold rush of recent history. Skagway and Dyea (Di-ee-ya), Alaska, located 600 miles south of the gold fields, were the closest salt water ports to the Klondike. More than 100,000 stampeders set out for the Klondike (stampeders... the name given to those who rushed anywhere a fortune was rumored to be made). However, no more than 40,000 actually reached Dawson City, the center of most of the action. In the end, only some 4,000 or so prospectors actually found gold in the gold fields with a few hundred becoming rich. Yet, out of these, only a mere handful managed to hang on to their wealth. This short moment in history, has much in common with the end of this age, as 'would be Christians' rush to and fro to find the spiritual riches of a true relationship with God.
Take the Advantage While You Can
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
The concept of making hay while the sun shines is also a scriptural principle, that relates to taking advantages while they are there. Many people hear the true gospel, but for one reason or another, don’t respond, or put off the opportunity before them. Salvation will not always be available and perhaps of greater concern, the willingness to respond when the opportunity arises is most often missing. Thus there are two problems relating to every blessing God offers us. The first problem relates to identifying the blessing and the second, relates to being in the right frame of mind to act upon it. The bible seems to indicate that the second problem is greater than the first, especially for spirit filled people.
The Lord Knows How to Get Things Done
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
Many people make the mistake of judging God's ability, by their own inability to get a response from God. There is no need to fear, nor get frustrated if things aren't going your way. God knows how to get things done and the instructions are clearly defined in the bible. A bit of faith, a willing and humble heart, the ability to learn and things start to happen.
Failure is a Choice, Not an Accident
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
Many of life's failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up' -Thomas Edison. Many people desire to succeed in life, but fail. This is often the result of giving in to pressure or weakness, because there is no guarantee of success in this world. However, God has actually assured us that we cannot fail...unless we chose to. How is this possible? After all, that is what the Gospel is all about. The only way to fail God's promises, is by choosing to reject them.
Up Front and Personal
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
Every aspect of our relationship with God is personal, just as every aspect of his relationship with us is personal. As a result of this reality, he considers every aspect of our lives and every manner of our strengths and weaknesses. This results in a comprehensive list of advice and encouragement that allows us to make the most of the Holy Spirit, our fellowship with each other and the duties of the Gospel.
A Little Can Mean a Lot
By Pastor Brad Smith [Brisbane]
Many people keep away from Christianity because they believe that they have to spend twenty four hours a day, in hard labour serving God. It is true that we serve the Lord, but it is not true that it is hard labour, nor is it true to suggest that everything we do is what God wants and not what we want. The simple reality is that all the things we desire in life, God also desires that we have them. The difference is in the manner we go about achieving our life's ambitions. God has given us the easiest possible way to have a happy and contented life, with all of our basic needs met. He also includes life after death in a far superior body than the one we now dwell in... that's not all that bad for starters. To achieve any of life's goals, there has to be a certain amount of sacrifice... you have to give up some short term pleasures to receive long term benefits. This is the area where God is able to bless us the most. A little sacrifice brings an immediate benefit... many little sacrifices will result in much more than we can imagine.
